School Virtual Performances “Show and Tell”
SHOW & TELL an interactive dance experience for the whole household!
Schools will secure the rights to an unlisted, private YouTube link for a defined amount of time. Students, faculty, staff, and their families can access the virtual dance performance on their preferred digital device at a time that works best for them. Included with the performance are discussion prompts about the dance pieces that encourage students to connect with their parents and family members through meaningful art-inspired conversations.
SHOW: Enjoy a 30-minute Black Box Dance Theatre Performance that includes works from our highly celebrated school show repertory.
TELL: Learn about the program information, background story, and inspiration of each dance piece. Get the whole family involved in dance-inspired conversations with prompts about the performance. Engage in interactive activities connected to themes from the show.
TELL: Student ambassadors can connect with BBDT during a live video call to ask questions that their peers may have for the company. The live session can be viewed during school and/or recorded to share at a later time.
The high-quality performance video includes these four favorite dances from BBDT repertory:
Fleeting - A high-energy, kinetic piece introducing the dancers of BBDT, modern dance aesthetics, and athleticism. Surprised by who lifts who?!
La Hora de los Muertos - A guitar, a Spanish ballad, and vibrant costumes set the stage for this Black Box favorite; a poignant number that shares the rich culture of Dia de Los Muertos
Move to Action - A tribute featuring BBDT dancer and Purple Heart Combat wounded Army Veteran, Alfredo Hurtado, that honors and celebrates the service and sacrifice of our military personnel.
Game! - An exciting performance highlighting Ron West’s mad ball skills. This piece combines dance, teamwork and athletics in a must-see “basketball ballet” that has gained BBDT cred from even the least likely dance enthusiasts.
Example of prompts/activities:
“Game!” Features the awesome ball skills of Ron West and uses basketballs as props. Can you think of a prop that might lead to the creation of a cool dance? Got skills of your own?
“Move to Action” shares the non-fiction story of Purple Heart combat wounded Army Veteran, Alfredo Hurtado. Has anyone in your family ever served in the military? How do you serve each other inside of your family?
“La Hora de los Muertos” tells the story of cultural traditions connected to Day of the Dead. What are some of your favorite holiday traditions practiced by your family? Find an object in your home that holds cultural significance. Share it with each other and explain why it is meaningful to you.
Cultural Arts performances have been a highlight for students and faculty in schools for decades. These artful and engaging events have not included parents or families in the past. Virtual performances provide a wonderful opportunity for students to share this experience and talk about the show with those they love.
